Does USPS Notarize In 2022?

The United States Postal Service no longer notarizes documents after 2022. USPS cannot perform notarization services as it is federally funded. This happens at the state and local level. Instead, the USPS can be visited by interested parties at any one of the many local notaries.

Why Doesn’t USPS Notarize?

NNA states there are three steps to notarizing documents: keeping records, certifying and vetting.

Each state establishes its own Notary Public Commissioning Authority to oversee the notarization laws.

This leads us to the conclusion that USPS does no provide notary services.

Like the Office of the President, the notaries I have mentioned are all overseen by the state. The Executive Branch of government includes the Postal Service.

The USPS is the only example of federal and state government that are not set-up to interconnect in this capacity.

Some mistakenly think that USPS is notarized. According to my research this may be due to notaries setting up shop in the exact same building that the Postal Service.

It is possible that some of them may be contracted with USPS in order to provide customer with additional services.

With the two offices operating so closely, and with people often visiting the notary before mailing off the documents at the post office, it’s easy to see why the connection is made.

The notary, however, is an individual who may be able to interact with you.

Where You Can Get Notary Services Instead Of USPS?

The post office cannot notarize your documents. How can I get my documents notarized at the post office?

There are actually lots of places that offer notarization, starting with small local offices.

Alternativly, you may prefer to visit a bank (including big names such as Wells Fargo, Bank of America) and check availability.

Library services, AAA and Universities are all options.

What is the UPS Notarization Fee?

UPS, or the United Parcel Service, offers notarization at more than 3,900 of their locations across the U.S.

Pricing for notarization services is partly determined by the state. The chart below shows that certain states can charge $2 minimum per signature.

Others like Florida may charge as much as $10 per signature. Some notaries are allowed to establish their own prices.

So if you want to get an idea of how much your document with cost to notarize at UPS, you can check your state’s maximum.

But you will also want to consider what type of document you’re having done.

UPS will notarize wills, trusts deeds contracts and affidavits. Each of these documents may require many signatures.

Can You Notarize Online?

Although many services are available online by the Postal Service they cannot offer notarization.

Some companies have begun to fill that gap with online notaries. These businesses connect you with remote Notaries Public, who walk you through the steps for an affordable rate.
