NFC or Near Field Communication (or NFC), has made contactless pay the easiest and most safest method to checkout with thousands grocers, retailers, and service providers.
Apple relies on NFC as a support technology for Apple Pay. iPhone owners can use their Apple Wallet to either pay cash at registers, or go online to purchase Apple Pay.
Is Apple Pay accepted by the USPS? Here’s the answer: You may be surprised.
Does USPS Take Apple Pay In 2022?
The United States Postal Service doesn’t accept Apple Pay nor any other form of NFC payment online. Customers can only use cash or credit cards to pay. Current card readers support NFC but USPS still keeps this technology disabled.
Why doesn’t the USPS accept Apple Pay?
The USPS is yet to make a statement about their refusal to accept Apple Pay. However, Redditors are speculating.
USPS does have access to millions of peoples’ sensitive information, plus as a federal service, the organization’s list of regulations would be quite stringent.
This might explain why certain post office locations won’t take near-field communication (NFC), like Apple Pay, technology.
It also works out because my local postoffice’s credit cards machines processed simple debit card transactions extremely slowly, despite them being equipped for Apple Pay and NFC.
Given the requirements of high-speed machines, and the fact USPS falls under a federal system it is no surprise that Apple Pay is not accepted at USPS.
What forms of payments does USPS take?
Even though there are no cutting-edge payment methods available, USPS will accept many other types of payments in their post offices. These include:

Does USPS Take Samsung Pay?
Strangely enough, despite not accepting Apple Pay, some post office locations appear to accept Samsung Pay and Google Pay.
Customers also reported finding more updated kiosks in their local post offices. Samsung Pay card users that have the cards above tied into their account have been permitted to use these devices.
Although the vast majority do not accept contactless, some post offices offer it.
Apple Pay is not yet accepted at these places. Samsung phones can instead use SamsungPay to make payments.
Additionally, it seems that the clerks are caught off guard when Samsung Pay works.
Redditor X commented that one Redditor had to type in their PIN, and then sign.
While the NFC does work, technically it is not 100% contactless. This is because the pin pad must be used and the pen.
And another commenter ran into a bit of resistance when they successfully used contactless pay – the manager informed them it was against “company policy” to accept any smartphone payment method.
Perhaps the NFC was not disabled at that particular location?
Can You Pay USPS With PayPal?
USPS and PayPal made it clear that they would enable customers to shop online via PayPal in June 2012.
Only online payment is possible using USPS Click-N–Ship.
This benefit is very popular as customers choose to use PayPal instead of their cards. PayPal, just like Apple Pay adds an extra layer security to transactions.
Additionally, using PayPal to check out bypasses inputting an entire card’s-worth of financial information into the USPS website.
This was a convenient mash-up for consumers, as many e-commerce store owners already use PayPal to accept payment for their goods and services.
