No one in the American average family wants to go overboard with groceries. This is the most common thing you can do. Just walk into Wegmans and Kroger to purchase one item. We all try our best not to.
Is Aldi Cheaper Than Walmart In 2022?
Aldi may not be as cheap or cheaper than Walmart in certain areas, such as produce and seafood. Aldi has outnumber Walmart stores 2-to-1. Walmart recently dropped prices on many Great Value brand items. This has created instances where Aldi is not the cheapest, though usually, the difference is only a few cents.
Let’s look at the top-selling and most common groceries and then see how they compare when we put them side-by-side.
This is a simple method I used to keep it easy.
Aldi prices and Walmart prices may vary depending on their location. So for Aldi (who doesn’t list its prices online except Instacart which can increase cost) I created this Aldi pricelist as well as my receipts, dating back to the past year.
Walmart.com was my website. It has the exact location and prices that I needed for small cities in the Great Lakes area.
Only popular groceries were compared, and I used the private labels of each store (if possible) to compare items. Items were weighed as closely as possible.
There are no other options. Items can only be compared by the price per ounce and pound.
The final note: Prices and availability are subject to change without notice in any country. While I made every effort to provide accurate information, it’s only an indication of what the current price is at that moment. This list should not be considered as an official pricelist.
Aldi comes out ahead of Walmart when it comes to produce prices.
Aldi claims that it receives new orders every day, and the stock rotates – so there is no need to complain about the quality of Aldi’s produce.
*Note* Tyson brand pork loin is the only one comparable to Walmart’s.
Aldi comes out on top in meat prices overall, but Walmart is not as competitive with Aldi for seafood.
*Note – Walmart only stocks Thomas brand bagel strips.
Since Walmart doesn’t carry its own brand of bagel thins, I had to use the Thomas brand as a stand-in. Walmart does not compare favorably with their own brand of bagel thins.
Aldi’s bread prices are the best in all three of these categories.
Aldi’s specialty, flavor flavored icecream is almost unfairly compared to Walmart’s, since Walmart doesn’t produce theirs.
Aldi, however, will sell you something comparable. The flavors are loved by many.
Walmart is still competitive in the rice and pasta category. Aldi’s instant white rice rival is also a strong competitor.
However, you can save money if you cook a lot of rice.
Walmart has a lot of great deals for families who love Triscuit and chip knock-offs. Aldi wins in all other snacks categories.
Walmart is cheaper than Aldi when it comes to raw honey, though that’s not surprising given Aldi’s post-WWII history of being a grocer offering the best basics needed for rebuilding a country after a catastrophic event.
Aldi has the lowest prices when you want to buy condiments or oils.
Aldi has a great price on essential baking ingredients, which is something you should appreciate if you are a frequent baker.
The 50 cent box of baking soda is the most impressive item, a full 32 cents cheaper than Walmart’s already wallet-friendly price.
Aldi is a better choice than Walmart for dairy products, although they can change quite frequently. Walmart has a slight advantage on butter prices.

Aldi doesn’t always cost less than Walmart. But that shouldn’t stop shoppers from shopping there. Aldi’s per-shopping cart prices will be less if you do not plan to prepare a seafood meal, and you would definitely see an increase in your overall spending over time.
Walmart remains competitive with its Great Value brand. If you need other non-grocery products – such as office supplies, clothing, or video games – it won’t hurt to stop by your nearest Walmart Supercenter.
