FedEx and US Postal Service don’t compete; in fact, they are partners who have been working together since 2001 on various services.

While FedEx and USPS do not share shipping duties beyond their contractual agreement, FedEx occasionally handles USPS mailings that have ended up in their custody. More likely, FedEx will hold USPS mail for them to come retrieve. Both shippers can not be used interchangeably and are therefore not compatible.

Can You Make A USPS Return With FedEx?
One caveat: before you start putting your returns into FedEx dropboxes, this is back in the days when FedEx Smartpost was a collaboration between FedEx and USPS.
Smartpost no longer functions as FedEx discontinued their partnership with Smartpost and rebranded FedEx Ground Economy as their local delivery.
The SmartPost hubs are no longer the destinations of packages that had been left before the package was handed over to USPS.
FedEx is required to deliver the parcel to USPS in an alternate way. This means that USPS return can’t be made via FedEx.

Yes as long as USPS labels and addresses are all removed from the area or covered.
FedEx will treat the USPS package as a FedEx shipment.
According to the site SurvivalFreedom.com, no. Anecdotal evidence has shown that there may be exceptions.
But, FedEx won’t deliver USPS-made packages. That is my best guess. While the two share some services, they otherwise operate individually.
Furthermore, it’s actually illegal for anyone other than the resident and the postal carrier to put anything inside the mailbox at any given residence.
FedEx transporters are unlikely to engage in federal crimes on a regular basis.
However, mix-ups do happen. But if FedEx is treated as an interchangeable company and USPS, then you will regret it.
Will FedEx Deliver A USPS Label?
FedEx most likely will not deliver a package with a USPS label.
FedEx is a business with a bottom line. They aren’t going to make much doing the work of the Postal Service for them.
Your best-case scenario is that FedEx will get the package to USPS, and your recipient will experience a bit of a delay as a result.

The existing partnership is likely to explain a lot of confusion around the shippers and the supposed interchangeability.
