The German grocery chain supermarket has fallen a bit behind the schedule but they are still working towards their goal of 2,500 stores.
Aldi has many options for locations in New Mexico, Albuquerque and elsewhere, should it decide to open a shop there.
Albuquerque is, for starters, the most populous state city with over half of a million people living in the city, and nearly one hundred thousand in the greater metropolitan area.
There are quite a few neighborhoods in the city which look conducive to an Aldi store, such as Quigley Park, Nob Hill, and Loma Del Rey.
Santa Fe, the capital of New Mexico, is located outside Albuquerque.
Santa Fe is the fourth largest city in New Mexico, with a population of about 85,000, but it also sees tons of tourist activity for its many historical sites.
What Is the Closest Aldi Between New Mexico and Albuquerque
Aldi is located approximately 320 miles from Albuquerque at the Gilbert, AZ location.
Unfortunately, Texas locations are grouped further east, far from the TX/NM border.
Shoppers Should Look For Alternatives to Aldi in New Mexico or Albuquerque
Albuquerque and New Mexican residents may not yet have Aldi, but there are plenty of other popular options.
There are no fewer that six locations for the Sprouts Farmers Market within the Albuquerque region, three in the entire state and two more in Santa Fe.
There are two Whole Foods Markets located in New Mexico, one in Albuquerque (and one Santa Fe).
In the state there are 23 Albertsons Markets, two of which are in Santa Fe. Ten others can be found in Albuquerque’s metro area.

Aldi has not yet completed expansion of the U.S., despite the fact that its current plan for building has been approved by New Mexico.
It will be interesting to see what happens, but it wouldn’t surprise me if New Mexico has at least some Aldi shops when Aldi moves into its next phase.

Aldi U.S. aims to increase its U.S. store count by 150 in 2022. Its expansion along the Gulf Coast regions will see the deep discount retailer reach the 38th US state. Aldi U.S., based in Batavia in Illinois, announced Tuesday that they plan to open a Lafayette location on February 10th. It will be the chain’s first Louisiana store.
